Spotify Connect for Home Audio

The Spotify Connect feature allows the Spotify app to act as a remote control for home audio devices.

The Spotify Embedded SDK makes it easy to add Spotify Connect functionality to a home audio device. The SDK provides a compact binary; by integrating the Spotify eSDK with the firmware of a device, you make it possible to discover and control playback on that device directly from the Spotify iOS, Android, desktop or web player app. Playback can also be controlled from your hardware companion app as long (as the content links to a native Spotify app).

The binary takes care of all negotiation with backend Spotify services, including digital rights management and decoding. In addition, it delivers audio as a PCM stream ready for rendering by your device. The binary runs single-threaded to keep the integration simple.

Who is this great for?

  • As a device manufacturer, you can integrate Spotify Connect functionality directly through the Spotify eSDK binary.

Note that we are only accepting applications if you are using a platform provider to integrate with Spotify using Spotify Connect, or if you want to integrate a voice-enabled device with Spotify Connect, such as Amazon Alexa.

Using a platform provider

A simple way to integrate Spotify Connect into your device is to work with one of our approved platform providers. Platform providers offer hardware modules, software, and services that can help you build your integration and get certified faster.

Please reach out to one of our currently approved platform providers if you want to use them for your integration with Spotify Connect:

Please note that we only accept Hardware Partner Applications from companies, not individuals. Spotify’s tools will come with legal, licensing and technical limitations, and final approvals for commercial usage will always be left up to the discretion of Spotify and its partners.

Let’s get started

You now need to submit a Hardware Partner Application. If you’re using a platform provider, please contact them directly, and they will help you to get started.

You will need to apply as a company, not an individual.

If you need to file a support question about your implementation, you will need to create or activate a JIRA account in our Spotify Connect for Home Audio Help Center.
