New Android Media Notifications Guide
Posted July 18th, 2014
Want to read media broadcast notifications from the Android Spotify client into your own app?
Our new guide at the Spotify Developer Website, Android Media Notifications, shows you how to read the broadcast notifications by creating a broadcast receiver and registering it in the application manifest.
We provide a code example for extending the Android BroadcastReceiver abstract class, showing how to detect when a new track starts playing and how to read its name, length, artist and original album.
Your own app can also get the current playing status (playing/paused), the playback position within the track, and the time the track started playing.
Reading media broadcast notifications provides you with many possibilities for synchronizing your own apps with what’s currently playing on Spotify.
