Hack Day Recap: Music Hack Day NYC
Posted October 24th, 2013
We hosted an awesome Music Hack Day at our new NYC offices last weekend. Over 150 developers, designers, product minds, and friends attended, and [35 projects were created in just 20 hours.
Many thanks to our sponsors: The Echo Nest, Soundcloud, CMJ, Twilio, Rdio, MusiXmatch, Free Music Archive, Gracenote, 3scale, Dizzyjam, and Mote.io.
Some of our favorite hacks included MadLyricz, which lets you combine MadLibs with karaoke.
Facemelter, which updates a playlist in real-time based on user keyboard input correlated to BPM.
partyOutlook lets you text in a song to a CocoaLibSpotify-powered iPad jukebox that displays real-time information about the life of the party using EchoNest song data.
NSAify lets Spotify users within your vicinity eavesdrop in on what you are listening to. Likewise, you have the power to hear what strangers are listening to.
Songs About… uses Wikipedia articles titled ‘List of songs about…’ to generate Spotify playlists about different subjects and places.
We also had a CMJ showcase with the up-and-coming Aussie band Strange Talk.
